If a hard fall, blow to the face of other oral accident has fractured one or more of your teeth it can be a serious cause for concern. Even if the fracture is shallow and limited to the enamel layer, the exposed area can promote new areas of tooth decay. Since the enamel layer in the fracture is shallow, any decay that forms is much more likely to affect the sensitive interior of the tooth leading to further complications.
In many of these cases, the most effective method to resolve the problem is to have the fractured tooth fitted for a crown.
At the start of the process Sierra Vista Dental will conduct a thorough examination of the tooth, and take a few X-rays. This helps us to make sure that the pulp and root of the tooth are still healthy and have the structural integrity to anchor a crown.
Your dentist will then form an abutment, to later anchor your crown, by removing the majority of the tooth enamel.
The dentist will then create an impression of the abutment, as well as the corresponding teeth. Then a temporary crown is cemented over the abutment to keep it safe.
The impression will be sent to our professional dental lab, where a team of skill technician will custom craft a crown to restore your tooth.
When your permanent crown is completed Sierra Vista Dental will call you back in for another appointment. You can expect this appointment to be brief. The temporary crown will be removed and your new crown will be cemented in place.
